I actually struggled to think of a Halloween Reviewing Childhood, Halloween is my favourite time of year which means every year I rewatch my childhood favourites such as Hocus Pocus, Halloween Town, and everything Tim Burton’s ever made. There was no point writing about things I watch annually because it’s not going to be the same as the previous posts where I looked back at something I hadn’t seen in a very long time. Then it hit me: Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Afterall, it is why I want to name my future black cat Salem (and another Binx).
The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy is also a great choice to re-watch something this Halloween, as it was my favourite from when I rewatched old Cartoon Network shows.
Sabrina was an American sit-com following Sabrina Spellman’s life upon finding out she’s a witch at 16 years old. She has to live with her two aunts, Hilda and Zelda, and the talking black cat Salem.
The show isn’t speciafially a Halloween thing as it did run all year round, and I watched it all the time, but witches are synonymous with Halloween.
We started with a few episodes from season 1, and it was immediately easy to get into. I think that was because the likes of Rugrats, and a lot of Cartoon Network shows were intended for a very young audience, whereas a lot of teenagers watched Sabrina so as an adult it’s easier to relate to a teenager than a child.
I would honestly keep watching this show now.
At the time, Hilda and Salem were of my favourite characters for the comicrelief, and I found that they still are.
Sometimes the show can be a bit petty, such as Sabrina being upset about not being popular in school when she wanted to re-do her first day, but when I watched as a kid I’m sure I related a lot more to that.
It’s always weird watching things once you’ve grown up and are now older than the protagonist because it just makes you feel old.
Overall, so far Sabrina the Teenage Witch seems to have held up the best afterall this time. 90s and early 2000s style is always fun to cringe at now, and even at the time Salem looked really fake. There’s word of a remake too but I’m always sceptical of reboots so I’m happy rewatching the original for now.

I still watch this every once in a while. Love it. Oh and I used to have a cat named Binx 😊
I’m actually starting to rewatch this show, because it’s in the HULU “huluween section”, and I’m honestly loving it! It’s bringing back so many memories, and the 90’s fashion is great (well most of the time). It’s werid to think how many clothing trends are making a comeback! Great post xx

I never actually watched the show but heard so many good things about it!
I’d 100% recommend watching it
I watched this show growing up too and I remember loving it! It’s been a while since I’ve rewatched it to be honest and I’m sure I’d have a slightly different experience this time but a classic is a classic! Thanks for sharing your thoughts x
I used to love this show! I’ve been wondering if it would still hold up if I watched it now. Maybe I will try rewatching it. I saw the trailer for the Netflix reboot and it definitely looks like they are going for a completely different vibe, I don’t feel like I would like it much. Thanks for sharing!
There’s a new show coming to Netflix soon that’s supposed to be a scarier version of Sabrina the Teenage witch. The trailer gave me American Horror Story vibes. I’d love to know what you think about it!
I saw the trailer for that, it looks good!
I forgot about that show. I used to love it. I will have to check it out on Hulu.
Used to love this show as a kid! Started getting back into it recently too!
I love this idea!! I was a big fan of Sabrina, especially Salem, but I wonder what I’d think of it now. I agree with you in that it’s always interesting to see how your views change (at the time, I probably thought her situations were the same as mine but now I’d probably laugh at how silly it is!) Need to find a way to watch it again.
I actually found a lot of what was a big deal to her silly now, even though when I was her age things like someone in school hating me felt like the end of the world. Growing up means finally understanding the adults
I loved Sabrina! I feel like I definitely still would if I rewatched it. Not sure about the remake though… xx
I’m always skeptical of remakes, so I sitll dont know if I’ll watch it
omg I absolutely loved this show! it was a favourite of mine when I was a young girl! tv isn’t like this now days!
I absolutely loved this show when I was younger! I’d definitely go back and re-watch it. I am quite looking forward to the Netflix version though!
I had completely forgotten about this programme – I used to love it. I agree it’ll be totally different watching it now – but interesting just the same. I’ll have to see if I can find any episodes on YouTube. Thank you for inspiring me.
